Day ToursGavia Travel offers two kinds of pre-organized Nature- and Wildlifewatching day tours leaving daily from Reykjavik. One is to the Reykjanes Peninsula and the other to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Both are relaxing and ideal for your last day, or any day for that matter, in Iceland. Just as in all our tours we emphasis on keeping the groups small from 6 - 12 people to ensure every participants experience will be an enjoyable one. The Reykjanes Peninsula tour takes around 8 hours and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula tour about 10-12 hours. Stopover ToursDuring the summer Gavia Travel offers three kinds of Nature- and Wildlifewatching tours in Iceland that are very suitable for travellers going between Europe and America. Each tour emphasizes on different areas of Iceland The South Shore and Lakagigar Craters, The West Iceland and The World Famous Lake Myvatn Area. Just as in all our tours we emphasis on keeping the groups small from 6 - 12 people to ensure every participants experience will be an enjoyable one! The South Shore - FridaysIn the South Shore and Lakagigar craters tour we among other things observe the moonlike nature on the well known Reykjanes Peninsula, visit the Blue Lagoon, Thingvellir National Park and the Geysir Area. We will look at waterfalls such as Gullfoss Waterfall, Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and Skogafoss Waterfall. We will travel through some of Iceland’s most vegetated areas, through farmlands in valleys between high mountains with glaciers on top, through small villages, huge open areas with nothing but black sand as far as your eyes can see and big fields of young lava. During the trip we'll also be able to see three major glaciers the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier, Myrdalsjokull Glacier and Vatnajokull Glacier. Nevertheless the all time highlight of the trip will be our visit to the Lakagigar Craters, the scene where earth opened in 1783 makin one of the most catastrophic natural disaster in historical times. It's a fantastic tour covering many of the must see places in Iceland! Wild West - WednesdaysThe Wildlife in the west is a tour that emphasizes on the west part of Iceland. Particularly the Snaefellsnes Peninsula and the Breidafjordur bay north of it. Snaefellsnes Peninsula is with one of the best places in Iceland for Nature- and Wildlifewatching during the summertime. It is an area that features extraordinary moorlands, meadows, marshlands, rivers, streams and small ponds along with beautiful rock formations and black sand beaches. In this tour we can expect to see great variety of bird species, seals and possibly few cetacean species. We will do a boat tour in the Breidafjordur Bay and experience the wildlife intimately among some of the over 3000 islands and islets in the bay. Lake Myvatn Area - TuesdaysIt has been described as a strange meeting place of two worlds where you are able to find flora and fauna from both the temperate and the arctic zones. The area is also highly active volcanic area situated on the west edge of the meeting point of the Eurasian- and North American plates. By the end of the day we have be traveling by and visiting among other things a range of pseudo-craters, volcanoes of different sizes, hot springs and new lavafields with lava pillars. Whalewatching
BirdwatchingGavia Travel offers variety of pre-organized Birdwatching experiences in Iceland. These pre-organized tours consist of four types of 4-day tours, two types of 6-day tours and two 12-day tours. The 6-day tours are run back-to-back meaning that visitors can go on more than one trip and extend their trip to up to 12 days.
