4 Day Birding Tours

Drake Harlequin Duck by Hrafn Svavarsson

Gavia Travel offers four kinds of pre-organized 4 day-tours, all leaving from Reykjavik.

The first 4 day birding tour of the year is in March. In this tour we focus on observing some of the most sought after Icelandic specialities. Species such as as Harlequin Duck, Barrow's Goldeneye, Iceland Gull, Glaucous Gulls, Long-tailed Duck play a big role in this tour as well as possible rarities such as King Eider, American Herring Gull and Little Auk to name a few.

The second tour is rather early in the springtime when the birds have and are arriving from their migration. Late May - early June is the best time in Iceland for many species with much activity going on when the birds mate and secure their territories.

The third takes place in late summer when we join Icelandic ornithologists as they go to outlying islands in the Westman Islands archipelago which are usually not accessible to tourists to ring European Storm-petrels and Leach’s Storm-petrels that breed there in huge numbers.

The fourth and final tour of the year is in October and is aimed at the rarity high season. Beside the rarity high season we will ba able to observe many of the most sought after species we have here in Iceland.
